Did You Know?
I have seen this video once before and the facts are amazing to me.
The fact, "We are currently preparing students for jobs that don't yet exist..." is mind blowing and difficult for one's mind to grasp. How do you prepare one for something like that? The video said that for students starting a four year technical degree half of what they learn their first year will be out dated by their third year of study. Being in my third year of college, I see where it is a true statement in some cases. The technology I used two years ago has updated, advanced, and been modified. They still are the same programs; Just better versions.
Another fact that blew me away was, "If Myspace were a country, it would be the fifth largest in the world (between Indonesia and Brazil)". It astonishes me to think that a website that started so small grew to become a website with over 200 million registered users. A WEBSITE?!? The social network has grown outrageously. "1 out of 8 couples married last year met online" shows that computers and the web have stretched from a place to learn new information and research to finding love, friendships, and connections. The World Wide Web is now a huge web formed from clouds of information, technology, and social networks.

This video definitely made the point that technology has changed SO much over the past 100 years. Technology, as well as other things have changed tremendously and are still continuing to change. I usually surf the Internet daily and I read about a new technological discovery or advancement. That is on a daily basis. Now just imagine 100 years.
I do not agree with the school aspect of it though. Yes, schools still have the primary basis of learning, but most schools this day in time actually use a lot of technology. I remember when I was in school we used overhead projectors that you had to plug in to a wall socket and place a piece of clear paper with the information on. Now they are using projection systems coming out of the ceiling that are controlled using computers and remotes. Instead of writing notes by hand, students can have the information at their finger tips by using computers. Teachers use PowerPoint presentations that can be shown on every computer in a classroom, making it visually easier for all students. Do teachers still lecture and students still take notes? Yes, but in a whole new way.

This is me!
Hi everyone. My name is Tabitha Sweat. I usually go by Nicole, but I answer to either name. I am originally from Atlanta, but ventured the 350 miles from home to play softball for University of Mobile. After attending the University of Mobile, I felt that I belonged at the University of South Alabama. I do not play softball here at South, but I do plan on trying out next year. I transfered here in August and I am currently a junior. I am majoring in Elementary Education and focusing on Special Education. Special Ed is where my heart is and where I feel I would belong. That's a little about me. I hope to get to know each and every classmate better. I am an open book, so please feel free to ask anything.
